Menu Plan Monday

Although it's late in the day, this post is still happening!
Today marks a turning point for me. I have decided that I'm going to eat more fruits and veggies in an attempt to lose weight. There, I said it! To tell the truth, I hardly eat any veggies, and few fruits if I'm revealing all. If I could sum up my eating habits in one word, it would be CARBS!

Weight Watchers has worked for me, but still, I find that I'm eating few veggies. Eventually, the whole thing grows tiresome and I fall off the wagon. So starting tomorrow, there's going to be a new breakfast and lunch menu (for me): Smoothies. After some reasearch today, tomorrow will find me in the grocery store buying fresh and frozen fruit and fresh green veggies, along with a few other ingredients. Below, you will see the smoothies I will incorporate into each day, except Sunday. The goal is to have a smoothie at breakfast (typically all fruit/protein) and one at lunch (here come the veggies), and then eat a regular dinner with the family. I will also try to do this on Saturdays, but I figured Sundays will be my smoothie-free day, unless I'm just absolutely craving one.

I'll report next week how this first week went, and if I'm totally going to chuck it out the window, along with the other 4 attempts with Weight Watchers! By the way, if you have any great smoothie recipes, please post them here!

Monday: Chicken & Sweet Potatoes with veggie and fruit
Tuesday: Waffles with fruit
Wednesday: Sandwiches
Thursday: Leftovers
Friday: Tacos
Saturday: Sandwiches
Sunday: Leftovers (No Hope Group)

Smoothie Menu:
Monday: Banana Raspberry (breakfast), Sweet Veggie (lunch)
Tuesday: Pomegranite (breakfast), Green Smoothie (lunch)
Wednesday: Apple Cinnamon (breakfast), Green Coconut (lunch)
Thursday: Berry Breakfast (b-fast), Kale Smoothie (lunch)
Friday: Lemon Kiwi (b-fast), Green Smoothie (lunch)
Saturday: Protein Smoothie (b-fast), Sweet Veggie (lunch)
Sunday: Off Day

What's on your menu this week?

Menu Plan Monday

Yes, I'm alive! Whew, have I gone through a dry spell here over at this blog. Going to try to remedy that as time permits. You know, you do have to prioritize. I had been trying to make my Thirty-One business my top priority, but what I have come to realize is that God is suppose to be my top priority. With Him first, everything else is second and will fall into place as it should.

So, with that said, each and every day, I will first be reminded of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This foundation of my life and faith will get me through each and every day. No matter what trials and tribulations I will face, that reminder is all it will take to push me on to the end! Give it a try; it's like a breath of fresh air!

Again, our family is struggling with the "no eating out" rule. It's very easy to break and a hard habit to shake. But we HAVE TO! It's becoming a matter of being able to get a few extras each month that are possible needs and not wants, so we are down to only eating out if we have coupons for FREE or super cheap meals, and try to do this only on special occasions too! This week, we happen to have one....read on to find out more.

Here's what's on tap for our menu this week:

Monday: Pork Chops
Tuesday: Free Pancakes at IHOP (giving away shortstack to each guest, asking for donations to Shriners)
Wednesday: Sandwiches (AWANAs)
Thursday: Lasagna
Friday: Crockpot Italian Chicken
Saturday: Leftovers
Sunday: Hope Group (still deciding, either crockpot recipe or tacos)

What do you have on tap for dinner this week?

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28

Kelly's Thirty-One Thermal Tote Toss!!

Wow, it has been over a month since I last posted. Time management use to be one of my many strengths, but I think it has just gone out the window with the coming of children! Though I strive to post several times a week, sometimes other things take priority. But, I'm back today, so here's the latest skinny!

Thirty-One is having their fabulous Thermal Tote sale again from now through January 31st! Regular Thermal Totes are just $10 (personalization is $7 extra) and there's a new Cinch-It-Up Thermal (see pic above) that is just absolutely amazing! It is just $15, regular price will be $20! Plus, there are new patterns available on both that will be in the new Spring/Summer catalog!

I'm hosting my first ever Thermal Tote Toss until January 31st, but my goal is to get at least 8 people to participate by the end of this year, December 31st. The Thermal Tote Toss, if you should accept the challenge, will require you to "toss" me an order of at least 5 Thermal Totes (mix or match styles), and you will earn 1 free Thermal Tote of your choice (embroidery will be free if you choose the regular Thermal Tote)!!

Now this means you can get orders from your friends, buy them for gifts, or just order them for you and your children to use in the new school year! If you'd like to participate, please e-mail me at kasaggie@wans.net or call 979-492-8701! There's just 2 weeks left in this year! To view the specials flyer and see available patterns, go to my Thirty-One Website here.

Of course, if you cannot order before the end of the year, this deal (earning the 1 free Thermal) is still good through me only until January 31st.

Loving God, life, family and Thirty-One!

Looking for Real Change?

It's been a while since I've posted, but the last two months have taken our family through a pretty rough bout of strep throat. Everyone had it in September, and then I turned up with it again this past week. Hopefully, we'll be done with it!

So today, I wanted to turn topics to something I don't normally get on a soapbox about: Politics. With the upcoming Presidential election next year, everyone is hearing all about the Republican candidates. There are a few things I'd like to bring to light, not necessarily about the candidates themselves, but to focus on you and to look at how you make your decision to vote.

The two main political parties are the Democrats and the Republicans. However, in today's world, these labels really don't mean much of anything. Someone may call themselves a Democrat or Republican and have beliefs that stretch over to the "other side." In order to make informed decisions on selecting the cadidate to vote for, you first must decide what your values are and what issues most concern you.

For the early part of my voting life, I was dumb to politics. Pretty much I just voted the way my father told me to and didn't question it. But once I graduated from college and started participating in the real world, I began to take a better look at who I was voting for. Especially after I became married and as I grew closer in my relationship with Christ, certain issues stand out for me before I vote for that particular candidate.

Ask yourself, what do you believe in? What values most concern you? For my family, we do our best to look at candidates with a Biblical perspective. Of course, no one is perfect, not me and certainly no one running for President! But, we examine their stances on vital issues and match them up with what the Bible tells us. A few of the main issues we look at in a candidate are: Are they anti-abortion and do they believe that marriage is defined as a union between a man and a women? There are many other issues; this is just a sampling.

Know what you believe in (most of you do!) and then examine each candidate to see if they mostly match up with your beliefs. This may mean that you vote for a Democrat when you think of yourself as Conservative and Republican, or vice versa. It takes people like you and me to make informed decisions (so that means do your research!!!) to elect the "right" candidate.

What makes this difficult is when the political world throws crummy candidates into the race. This has happened for the past couple of elections. This year, there are several ones that seemingly look good. Don't just vote for someone because they may be handsome, because your parents tell you to, or because you think you have no choice but to vote for that certain candidate. What you have to do is to determine if they match up with your standards, ethics, etc.

This is not a topic that I typically write about, but I felt led to do so not to tell you who to vote for, but to hopefully get you thinking about how and why you vote for a particular person, especially if you are looking for real change in the next election. Please feel free to leave your comments and ideas. I would love to hear them. We'll get back to regular posting next week!

"I exhort, therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and holiness." 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Target Recalls Step Stools

Yesterday, I found out about this recall on Step Stools by Circo that are sold at Target. There have been some injuries due to the storage unit collapsing and some other incidents. There are two different styles (shown in the picture above) and they come in different colors. The Consumer Product Safety Commisson has the following post on their website (which you can view all the pertinent information here):

Consumers should immediately stop using the step stools and return them to any Target store to receive a full refund.

We have the one in the natural wood color, so I'm going to take it back to my local Target store and see what happens. We've never had any problems with it, but having three small children in the house, we don't want to take any chances.
